DEMOLITION work has begun in Footscray to make way for the Regional Rail Link.
Old storefronts were knocked down last week to accommodate the new rail line, which will separate regional and metropolitan trains and allow for more trains and services.
Demolition will also start along Buckley St this month and will continue through until the end of the year.
Works will generally be carried out between 7am and 6pm Monday to Friday, but there may be some work close to the rail corridor that is safer to carry out on weekends or at night when trains are not running.
Nearby Buckley St residents have been warned about noise from machinery, including excavators, chainsaws and jack hammers during the demolition periods.
There will also be more trucks in the area.
Residents will be notified about the timing of demolition of properties between Victoria and Albert streets later this year.
