MEMBERS of a Hoppers Crossing social group who have been victims of vandalism are rejoicing after receiving a flood of goodwill.
The Hoppers Crossing Playgroup, which consists of 32 children and their parents who meet up every week to play and socialise, was recently visited by some handy helpers.
Antonette Spiteri, Allan Long and Joel Smith from Bunnings Hoppers Crossing spent several hours last Wednesday doing repairs at the playgroup.
“The cubby house looked like someone had been jumping on it and the roof was all collapsed,” Ms Spiteri said.
“We’ve placed a new piece of timber under that and shored it up so it won’t fall on the kids.”
A roof above the group’s sandpit that was leaking was also fixed while the cubby house received a fresh coat of paint.
The Bunnings team will also return over the coming weeks to paint the inside walls of the group’s playroom.
Group Leader Rebecca Parsons said she was overwhelmed by the help given to the not-for-profit group.
“It’s been a godsend,” Ms Parsons said.
“All we do basically is fundraise for what we need so it’s great to get support like this.”
Ms Parsons said the parents and children were sad to see the cruel vandalism that they had been subject to time and time again.
“It’s awful obviously,” she said.
“Every week we come here and something else is broken.”
The Hoppers Crossing Playgroup meets at Mossfield Drive every Wednesday from 10am to 12pm.
