MEMBERS of the Werribee Little Athletics Centre enjoyed a special session last week, with Australian paralympian Richard Colman on hand to talk to athletes.
After beginning his career in Little Athletics, Colman has gone on to represent Australia for over 10 years, competing in four World Championships and three Paralympics.
His best result came at the 2012 London Paralympics where he was able to win a gold medal in the 800-metre wheelchair race.
Werribee LAC committee member Michelle Andrews said the event was a great experience for the club’s young competitors.
“The morning went really well and I think the Little Athletics participants got a lot out of Richard’s visit,” she said.
“It was great for them to see that a wheelchair athlete started in Little Athletics just like they did.”
Andrews said that athletes with all abilities are welcome at Werribee LAC and encouraged anyone in the community interested in becoming involved in Little Athletics to contact the club.
“We would like to promote Little Athletics to all athletes,” she said.
“We haven’t had an athlete compete in a wheelchair but it is certainly something we would welcome.
“We like to see our centre as being inclusive and accessible to all athletes with all abilities.”
