Big V to mix it with best in country

THE cream of the Victorian Big V Basketball Competition will take part in the National Basketball League’s (NBL) preseason competition in Cairns later this month.
The lineup will take part in the 2005 Championship PreSeason Blitz over the weekend of 26 and 27 August in preparation for the national competition’s 2 September tipoff. A 19man training squad has already been named, with a final 10man team set to make the trip in the next few weeks.
NBL commissioner Rick Burton said the league was pleased to give the Big V allstar team a chance to compete with the heavyweights of the nationwide competition.
“The inclusion of a Big V allstar side will help ensure that the fans in Cairns get to see some truly amazing basketball on the eve of the new season, and also continues our initiative aimed at fostering basketball at grass roots level,” he said.
The Big V league jumped at the chance to be part of the competition, which will give the league extra exposure to the highest level of basketball in the country.
The team will be named in coming weeks.
