Cash aid for heritage school

HERITAGE listed Footscray Primary School was given $28,666 for upgrades as part of the State Government’s urgent maintenance funding for schools across the state.
The school is one of 16 in the Footscray electorate to share in a total of $689,473 and is one of 12 in the City of Maribyrnong to receive funds.
Other schools to receive money for maintenance upgrades include Footscray City Primary School ($25,309), Footscray North Primary School ($24,992) and Braybrook College ($186,046).
Principal of the school Natalie Bakai said most of the funds would be spent on repairs to the roof, such as water proofing and repairs to the eave linings.
“For us it will mean maintenance and conservation not just of the school but of a valuable community and Statewide asset,” she said.
The bluestone building was established in 1861.
The government will distribute $50 million in maintenance funds across the state on top of the annual $34 million allocated for school maintenance needs.
