STUDENTS, teachers and parents from schools all around Brimbank spent their school days last week making education fun, as part of this year’s Education Week celebrations.
Students and teachers from St Albans East Primary School took last week’s opportunity to make education fun, participating in a number of learning activities, from mask making to a teacher versus student newcombe ball competition for the senior students.
Teacher Sophie Stefanidis said her Grade 3 and 4 children had been rushing from room to room all week, trying their hands at visual arts activities, including making handbags and Mother’s Day cards.
But the week was as much about teaching the teachers as it was about showing off the children and their achievements.
“It’s been fantastic just to get to know all the kids,” Ms Stefanidis said.
She said she enjoyed the chance to liaise with children outside her class.
“It’s just an opportunity to celebrate our achievements,” she said about the week-long celebrations.
Education Week, which officially runs from 6-12 May, is an annual Department of Education event designed to showcase and promote government schools across the state.
To cap off the week, St Albans East Primary held a masquerade party on Friday.
During the party, the children had the chance to put their face masks to good use, while prizes were awarded to students for the range of activities and crafts that were planned during the week.
While students in St Albans were dabbling in art, those at Sunshine North Primary took a journey around world, hosting a multicultural day last Thursday in recognition of the school’s diversity.
Students watched and then had the chance to join an Asian dance group during the day with staff and students also treated to lunch of traditional Vietnamese food.
The school capped off the week rather appropriately with a Mother’s Day stall, just in time for Sunday.
