Grants to help waterway works

WYNDHAM City Council and a conservation group will get a share of $1.2 million in grants to help protect and improve rivers and creeks in the Port Phillip and Western Port region.
The grants, called the corridors of green program and announced by Melbourne Water last week, will go to Wyndham City Council for works in Grahams Wetland Reserve ($20,000), the Cobbledicks Ford Reserve ($16,500), the Werribee and Little Rivers ($20,000), and tiger pear control in Little river ($9000).
The Friends of Skeleton Creek will receive $300.
A total of 252 grants were awarded to 119 community groups, local governments and agencies in the region.
Melbourne Water’s general manager of waterways, Chris Chesterfield, said the grants would be used to fund projects including habitat improvement and weed control and to support volunteer community groups.
