CONVICTED terrorist Joseph “Jihad Jack” Thomas will appeal for bail on 18 May.
The Werribee father-of-three was the first Australian to be tried under the country’s anti-terrorism laws.
He was sentenced in March to five years’ jail on terrorism-related offences.
Mr Thomas’ lawyer, Rob Starry, said the appeal would be based on admissions Mr Thomas made to federal police while in custody in Pakistan.
“We’re claiming that the record of interview and long-term interrogation that were used as the basis for his conviction were unfair,” he said.
Mr Thomas is in maximum security in Barwon Prison, near Lara.
He is allowed weekly contact with his family, who lives in Werribee and Williamstown, Mr Starry said.
