Mayer moves east to take the lead in West

AN ORGANISATION set up to deal with the growth in the western suburbs has recruited Greater Geelong City Council’s Cities Economic Development Unit manager Anton Mayer.
LeadWest is a response to the failed Western Melbourne Regional Economic Development Organisation, which went bust in February 2005 after nearly 10 years.
Mr Mayer will be LeadWest’s chief executive officer after four years in his role at Greater Geelong.
He will start with LeadWest mid January as the inaugural CEO.
LeadWest is expected to plan and create a sustainable future for the wellbeing of communities in the West, covering council municipalities Hobsons Bay, Melton, Brimbank, Wyndham, Moonee Valley and Maribyrnong.
Governed by a board of directors, LeadWest will be a not-for-profit company with members made up from councils of Melbourne’s West and organisations whose operations are based in the region.
