FORMER Footscray legal service volunteer Fiona Hayes has been appointed as one of three new magistrates.
Ms Hayes’ appointment follows a long list of legal experience including volunteer work at both the Western Suburbs Legal Service and the Footscray Legal Service.
Before last week’s announcement, Ms Hayes has filled the role of deputy registrar at the Federal Court of Australia.
The other two new magistrates appointed at the same time as Ms Hayes were criminal law specialist Gerard Bryant and commercial law specialist Gerard Lethbridge.
Attorney-General Rob Hulls recent announcement also included barrister Michelle Ehrlich’s new position as acting magistrate for the Children’s Court.
