BRIMBANK motorists will be able to apply for a car immobiliser voucher under a national initiative designed to reduce the number of car thefts in high-risk areas.
One hundred vouchers, each worth $200, will be offered to motorists who have either been a victim of car theft or own a car made before 1997.
Operation Bounce Back, as the scheme is called, is being funded through the National Motor Vehicle Theft Reduction Council.
The voucher will cover the cost of installation of an immobiliser.
Brimbank City Council will administer the program, and from Monday 23 April eligible motorists can go to either of council’s customer service centres – Hampshire Rd, Sunshine, or Old Calder Highway, Keilor – to fill out a form and register their interest.
It’s first in first served, and the first 100 people to register will be given a voucher.
Brimbank is one of the worst areas for stolen vehicles across the state. The council says that 17 cars are stolen each week across the municipality.
