Pension bonus on for veterans

By Christine de Kock
THE Republic of Vietnam RSL is behind a drive to let Vietnam war veterans know the availability of pension bonuses.
Group president Thang Manh Nguyen will host a meeting in Footscray, on 2 September, to let veterans know about the bonus.
“Our main purpose is to help our members adapt to a new society,” Mr Nguyen said.
“We can also try to help them get more amenities provided by Veteran Affairs.”
The bonuses are available to veterans who fit specific criteria, such as being about to turn 60.
Mr Nguyen was a shooter in the Republic of Vietnam armed forces.
He fought alongside Australian and American soldiers to prevent the infiltration of communism in South Vietnam.
Footscray City College students have recorded the stories of local Vietnamese and Australian soldiers involved in the Vietnam War in a book titled: Vietnam Reflections.
The pension bonus seminar will be held from 11am to 12.30pm on the second floor of 30 Leeds St, Footscray. Inquiries on 9689 0399.
