HOONS are causing “unbelievable” noise and smoke every night in Werribee Plaza’s car park, according residents who live nearby.
Peter, who asked for his surname not to be printed, said his home backed onto the shopping centre.
He said motorists often engaged in illegal behaviour in the back car park.
“It happens pretty much every night of the week, especially when the weather is warmer,” he said.
“Just from people doing burnouts, you can hear tyres screeching and you can also hear the stereos thump and music going loudly.
“It’s pretty unbelievable, it’s worse than you can imagine, just the noise.
“There has been times when the smoke has come over the back fence and various times when it wakes you up.
“When you want to keep the door open in the warm weather to let a breeze in, you can’t because of the noise and smoke.”
Peter said the hoons usually showed up after 9pm, when most of the shops at the plaza closed.
“I think they (the hoons) consider it out of the way, but it’s not. There are a lot of people who live nearby,” he said.
“You get worried they may slam into the fence. Words can’t describe how bad it can be sometimes.”
Peter said there were some speed humps in the car park, but this did not stop the hoons from coming to the area.
“I’ve often seen police patrolling around the plaza, but not in the back car park,” he said.
At a recent meeting to discuss the expansion plans for Werribee Plaza, another nearby resident asked if the new car parks would be locked at night to stop hooning.
“At the moment, all hours of the night there are hoons in there seeing who can rev their engine the loudest,” he said.
“It could be 2am or 3am and they are revving their cars.”
Werribee Plaza did not reply to Star’s query, and Wyndham police said they were aware of the hoons at the car park.
