TWO of Wyndham’s younger residents are excelling beyond their years.
Grade 6 student Kiran Phanidhar Baireddy and Year 8 student Alexandra Stojanova have just completed the Kumon English program, which means both students are now capable of studying at Year 12 VCE level for English.
The Kumon Method of learning is an individualised learning method taught at Kumon centres across the world, including a Point Cook centre.
Students can start the program, for either maths or English, at any age and at the level where they can attain a perfect score by studying on their own, and excel gradually.
Staff Assistant at the Point Cook Kumon Centre Doreen Nguyen said Kumon gave all students an opportunity to develop and build on skills they learnt at school.
“It’s a level based program that helps students build on everything that they’ve already learnt at school,” she said.
Ms Nguyen said the program helped students get a head in school by helping them develop the necessary skills needed to work effectively and independently in all their subjects.
She said Kiran and Alexandra’s efforts in successfully completing the English program would help them feel more confident at school and make their future studies easier, which is the aim of the program.
“It’s amazing, it’s really inspirational because it shows it’s in everybody’s reach if a grade six boy can do it why not someone else,” she said.
Kiran started the program when he was in grade four and Alexandra when she was in grade six.
Ms Nguyen said the students achievements showed a good comparison of how students start and finish the program at different stages of their schooling and at their own pace.
Kiran and Alexandra are two of three students to successful comeplte the program at the Point Cook centre.
Both students are also months away from completing the Kumon maths program.
