WERRIBEE Centrals now sit just outside the top four in the North A1 Division of the Victorian Turf Cricket Association after picking up its second win of the season against Craigieburn on Saturday.
After sending the home team in to bat at Aitken Reserve for the limited overs match, the Centurions were able to restrict Craigieburn to 8/68 in 35 overs.
Justin Davies was the clear standout for the visitors, taking a very effective 3/7 in eight overs, while Aaron Edrich was also quite economical with 2/14 from seven.
Led by middle-order batsmen Blair Hemmingson (27) and Luke Simpson (14), the Centurions made light work of their run chase, reaching their target of 69 for the loss of six wickets before going on to post 9/123 by the end of their 35-over dig.
Meanwhile in the VTCA Senior Division, Hoppers Crossing’s home match with Beaumaris at Hogans Road Reserve was abandoned, resulting in a default draw.
POINT Cook is second in the Williamstown and District Cricket Association’s C-Composite competition after scoring an easy one-day win over Sunshine United at Saltwater Reserve on Saturday.
An unbeaten century from Spiros Goustis (104 not out) that was well-supported by opener Dasith Jayatilake (54) helped put Point Cook in a strong position early in the piece.
The Goustis-Jayatilake pairing combined for 155 runs for the second wicket, leading the hosts to a score of 8/189 by the end of their 40 overs.
In response Sunshine United struggled, only managing to get to 76 before losing its final wicket in the 36th over.
James Doolan was the standout bowler for Point Cook, claiming 4/11 and three maidens in his 10-over spell.
Inclement weather led to the abandonment of many WDCA fixtures over the weekend, including four of the five A-Turf matches scheduled for Saturday.
IN ONLY his seventh season of racing, 30-year-old Melton resident Dominic Dudkiewicz has taken out the Footscray Cycling Club’s 2013 Road Aggregate after contesting 23 gruelling road races in and around Melbourne’s West.
Having won the 2013 Criterium Aggregate earlier in the year, Dudkiewicz is the club’s most complete rider, topping both disciplines, a fact he attributes to his competitive nature.
“I’m naturally a very competitive person so the competitive aspect of cycling is definitely a big part of the appeal and is certainly what gets me up on a cold, dark winter morning to train,” he said.
“It’s a great feeling when the training pays off in the form of a race win.”
Dudkiewicz was picked up this year by Target Trek Racing, but still makes as many appearances at Footscray races as possible.
“I’m really proud to be a member of FCC,” he said.
“The club has a long and rich heritage and the volunteers do an extraordinary job to ensure great and frequent racing.
“The FCC has a lot of active members and it’s a very friendly, inviting atmosphere at the club. I couldn’t imagine a better club to ride for.”
Second in the Aggregate was 41-year-old Ascot Vale resident Miles DaCosta. The breakaway specialist consistently performing at a very high level all season, with third-placed Bob Shannon standing out as the class act in B Grade for the whole road season.
