FIFTEEN Sunshine College students have received a boost to their education thanks to the Western Chances scholarships.
Year 11 and 12 students have received educational supplies in mathematics, physics, media and dance that will help them broaden their skills and prepare them for further education.
All up, 60 students from the school have been awarded scholarships during the past three years.
Year 11 student Garang Dut, who came to Australia from Kenya last year, said he received a computer and a calculator that were given to him last week, would help him ease the pain of studying.
“I have been going to the library for Internet use. The timetable was not appropriate because I had to do the homework on the day and that was too little time,” Dut said.
Qui Nguyen, who hopes to become an engineer, has received a computer with Internet access and a calculator.
“It’s awesome how they give these things away. It can really support families that are struggling to meet the ends,” Nguyen said.
Western Chances was founded in 2003 and supports students who are in need of resources to undertake their education.
