WILLIAMSTOWN Congs scored a crushing win over Glen Orden Sports Club in the second round of the 2006-07 Western Suburbs United Churches Cricket Association Turf Grade on Saturday.
In a 35-over match at St Paul’s College, the Congs won by 170 runs after a punishing batting display.
Williamstown batted first and spanked the bowling all over the park, scoring at more than 6.5 runs per over and eventually halted only by the compulsory close at 5/230.
Only two of the seven batsmen missed out on big scores as Chris Smith (61), Andrew MacDonald (51) and Hamon Uppal (45 not out) led the way with the willow.
John Marshall was the best of the bowlers for Glen Orden, taking 2/44 from six overs.
The mammoth task confronting the visitors in the run chase was made even more difficult when they lost their first four wickets for just three runs.
Glen Orden eventually made 60 runs, 44 of which were scored off the bat of Michael Dyke.
Uppal matched his effort with the bat by picking up three wickets in four overs with the ball.
In other Turf Grade matches, Altona fell 35 runs short of Melton Centrals’ first innings total of 205 despite a half century from Glenn Jefferies.
The Roosters were still in with a chance of reeling in the total at 5/139, but lost its last five wickets for 31 runs.
