ROAD safety remains a focal point for Brimbank City Council.
The council has endorsed an action program following a review of its road safety plan that was adopted in September 2004.
Brimbank mayor and the Roadsafe North-Western Community Road Safety Council executive member Margaret Giudice said the council would continue to work hard to improve road safety.
“Most recently I was part of a delegation to Canberra advocating for improvements to the Calder Freeway, particularly the construction of improved access and exit points.
“Some of the road safety actions and activities the Council will undertake over the next couple of years include continued management of the Walking School Bus program including expanded programs, more buses, more participants, Walk on Wednesdays, and more events and activities for the participating children and volunteers.”
“We will also expand the Fit To Drive program into more secondary schools to ensure the important messages for novice drivers reach one of Brimbank’s most at risk road user groups,” Cr Giudice said.
The Road Safety Plan integrates the council’s road safety work across areas such as traffic engineering, community safety planning, Walking School Bus projects, communications and broader engineering works.
