Council slam-dunks a $59,000 debt

WYNDHAMCity Council will wipe clean a $59,000 debt owed by the Werribee Basketball Association.
The Werribee Basketball Centre Ltd, a company that formerly ran the association, accrued the debt between 1993 and 1997.
The debt related to utilities and maintenance charges, and interest.
A restructured company, in partnership with the council, repaid the balance earlier this year of a $250,000 bank loan.
Councillor Bob Fairclough said the situation was unusual because it was a historical debt.
However, he said he did not want the matter to set a precedent for other indebted clubs.
