AVALON Airport could become the site for an Australian Disney World.
Tim Anderson, general manager of Linfox Airports, said he could not comment now on the possibility.
“It’s hard to put a timeframe on when a formal comment about something like this could be made,” Mr Anderson said. Executives from the US were reported to have been impressed after looking at Avalon last month as part of a nationwide tour of possible sites.
Only about 20 per cent of the 2000hectare site has been developed to date.
Mr Anderson said this meant there were still “a lot of opportunities for possible expansion”.
The airport just recorded its 600,000th passenger since budget airline, Jetstar, took to the skies in 2004. It expects to carry its onemillionth passenger by 2007.
Avalon also hosted its first biannual international airshow alongside Jetstar earlier this year, an event that “integrated with airline operations extremely well,” Mr Anderson said.
The Disney executives were also reported to have toured other sites in Werribee and at the Docklands.
