FOOTSCRAY-Edgewater Cricket Club went down to Camberwell Magpies after failing to defend a dismal second innings total in round 16 of the Victorian Premier Cricket competition.
Playing at Camberwell, Footscray’s first innings total of 196 off the back of a 64 from captain Matthew Love was just out of reach for the Magpies who finished all out for 191 thanks to a five-wicket haul to Andrew McCammond.
Love again starred in the second innings hitting a 40 at the top of the order but a 25 from Dean Russ was the only support he received as the side fell to be all out for 104.
The Magpies cruised to victory losing just three wickets and taking 21.3 overs to hit 111.
With one round to go the Bulldogs are sitting five points clear at the top of the ladder, putting them in good stead for the coming finals series.
Their final round clash against Hawthorn-Monash University, which is sitting well down the ladder, should provide the opportunity for a positive end to the season and some momentum heading into the finals.
