‘Run machine’ takes honours

By Adrian Ceddia
JUSTIN Baker’s vintage form with the bat has earned the Yarraville Club custodian the first Star Newspaper/Western Region Cricket Centre player of the month for season 2006-07.
Baker’s last four weeks for the Clubbers have been nothing short of brilliant, and the opener has continued his reputation as one of the finest wielders of the willow in the Victorian Turf Cricket Association.
In seven innings so far this season, Baker has amassed an incredible 447 runs at an average of 89.40 – the highest for batsmen with five or more knocks.
He has scored two centuries – the only batsmen in the senior division to do so – and his highest score of 143 is also the best tally to date this season.
His first century came in round three against Youlden Parkville, where he smashed 109, and the second came in his latest try at bat against Doutta Stars.
He also has three half centuries to go with his triple figure scores, also an equal league high.

December week one nominations:
VTCA –Vijay Vassi (St Albans) 5/19 including a double hat-trick
WDCA – Michael Welsh (Newport-Digman) 160 runs
VSDCA – Patrick Eckel (Werribee) 90 runs
WSUCCA – Brendan Everard (St Johns) 95 runs
NWCA – Jarrod Catania (Kealba/Green Gully) 50 runs and 3/30.
