Seeing double!

KERRI-ANNEMESNER
WORK started last week to prepare for the duplication of Gourlay Rd between Grevillea Close and Melton Highway.
Nick Neda Site Cleaning Pty Ltd was awarded the contract.
Melton Shire mayor Justin Mammarella said this was a major project and he was delighted the works had started.
The project will take about 30 weeks and is scheduled to be ready by next June.
“We want to keep our community informed about these major projects and we are asking for patience and co-operation during the construction phase of this project,” Cr Mammarella said.
The project incorporates construction of a south-bound two-lane carriageway next to the existing road; replacing the existing rural-standard road to form a two-lane north-bound carriageway; and the construction of a median strip to separate the two carriageways.
Works will also include roundabouts at the intersection with Allenby Rd, Community Hub and Sugargum Drive/Excelsa Way; full-length kerbing and footpaths on both sides and bicycle lanes on both sides of the roadway.
There will also be a signal-controlled pedestrian crossing across Gourlay Rd on the north side of Community Hub; alterations to the Melton Highway intersection to suit the road duplication including remodelling of the traffic signals, extensive underground drainage works, replacement of all existing driveway crossovers with a new standard concrete crossover and ancillary works.
Because of the scale of the project and the nature of the work involved, there will some disturbance and disruption at various stages of the works but Cr Mammarella said every effort would be made to keep inconvenience to a minimum.
