She nearly missed

A WERRIBEE woman nearly didn’t answer a call that has changed her life.
Kathryn Levett, winner of a $40,000 car in the state-wide Police Blue Ribbon Foundation raffle, said she was speaking with her mother in South Australia on her home phone when her mobile rang.
“I wouldn’t normally leave mum dangling but something told me I should get it,” she said.
“My first reaction was it was a prank call, then I was in total shock,” she said.
The retail worker said buying the $2 ticket at Werribee Plaza was a last-minute decision.
“I like to support the police but I’m not really that lucky,” she said.
“I just bought it quickly on my way out.”
Ms Levett said the only other prize she has won is a sports bag, years ago.
Now she has a new Holden Commodore SVZ sedan from Werribee’s Ballan Holden.
“This couldn’t have come at a better time,” she said.
Blue Ribbon Foundation chief executive Neil Soullier said the competition was probably one of the last car raffles to be conducted “the old fashioned way” with volunteers and sponsored prizes.
The foundation was established in 1988 as a way to remember police killed in the line of duty.
