Starlight parties sparkle

THE Starlight Children’s Foundation is calling on the Wyndham community to hold special Star Parties to raise funds for children who are seriously ill or in hospital.
In this initiative, anyone who loves entertaining or helping a special charity, can hold a star party in May to help its major annual fundraiser, Starlight Day.
Individuals or community groups can host any style of event, however Starlight has suggested five themes to get the ball rolling. They are:
Star.B.Q – turn a barbecue into a fun fundraising event.
Super Star – great for kids and adults to come as their favourite star in fancy dress.
Star T-Party – high tea is back in fashion and perfect for small groups of friends.
5-Star Dinner – a stylish and glamorous option.
Cocktail party – plenty of fun and a special Startini cocktail created.
The chief executive of Starlight Children’s Foundation, Jill Weekes, said the money raised from donations would make an “enormous contribution” to ensuring that many more children benefit by becoming a Starlight kid. At present, Starlight reaches only one third of the 600,000 child hospital admissions in Australia each year.
The aim is to raise sufficient funds to ensure that by 2010 Starlight will reach every child in hospital.
Starlight Day is on Friday 4 May and thousands of volunteers sell merchandise at locations such as shopping centres on the day.
