ST ALBANS residents living near the Cowper Avenue Reserve this month celebrated the installation of new play equipment and landscaping worth about $55,000 two months ahead of schedule.
In March 2007, Brimbank City Council received a petition from 75 concerned local families asking it to make funds available in the 2007-08 budget to build the playground. The petition was tabled by Cr Anthony Abate.
“The site was vacant for approximately 30 years prior to the construction of the playground and the children and families in the neighbouring community lacked adequate play facilities for all that time,” Cr Abate said.
The playground is one of 10 being constructed throughout the municipality as part of the council’s open space and playground strategy.
The playground and landscaping were scheduled for completion by the end of June.
