WERRIBEE’S Championship Men Big V Basketball team suffered two losses on the weekend, to Eltham on Saturday and Ringwood on Sunday.
At Eltham High School, a 43-point second term gave the home side a strong lead, and it ran out the winner 111-90.
Werribee will be disappointed with the loss, having had 20 more shots than its opponent, but was unable to convert when it counted. Dallas Wilson was a shining light for Werribee with 24 points, while regular stars Nicholas Masunda and Curtis Small chipped in with 18 and 17 points respectively.
On Sunday, Ringwood won 97-76 at Werribee Sports and Fitness Centre.
Werribee coach Warwick Giddey said he wasn’t happy with how the weekend turned out.
“I’m really disappointed and shattered, I suppose. Our skill errors, execution and effort all let us down,” he said. “We just turned the ball over too many times this weekend.”
Giddey said his team would be focusing on improving its defensive structure as a result of allowing too many fast breaks.
He said he was pleased with how Wilson and Masunda played over the weekend, but wanted more from his team as a whole.
The Division One Women’s team had more success against Coburg, winning 66-59 in a tight contest.
The win was set up by a strong first half from Werribee, with a 13-point half-time lead proving too much for Coburg.
