GLEN Orden is into the Western Region Football League division two grand final after a 64-point thrashing of Manor Lakes.
The Hawks were dominant throughout the clash, kicking three goals clear at the first break and building the margin from there.
Damien Yze continued his outstanding season in front of goals with a bag of five while John Zangari also chipped in with three.
“It was an awesome result,” Glen Orden coach Nick Diker said.
“We were up and about very early in the game.
“It got to one of those situations where we were about 10 goals up in the last quarter and a heap of guys were really sore and cramping and we had the luxury to bring them off and put them in cotton wool for a couple of weeks. It was very pleasing.”
For Manor Lakes, Nathan Smithwick was the club’s leading goal scorer with three while Charles Hunter battled hard around the ground.
The Storm will now take on Parkside in the semi-final this week while the Hawks enjoy a week off.
“I can’t wait (for the grand final) to be honest,” Diker said.
“I am so excited to be involved with a club that didn’t win a game two years ago and now we are in a grand final. You just have to see all the older people from around the club, see their faces after the game yesterday.
“A couple of the guys who have been there for 20-odd years, they had tears in their eyes. That really hit home for me. I take a lot of pride in that. I’m going to try and take that into the grand final for the boys too.”
In scary news for its opponent on grand final day, the Hawks are likely to welcome back Adem Yze and Kent Kingsley for the biggest game of the year.
