HOPPERS Crossing Fire Brigade has welcomed a new vehicle to their fleet which will boost its firefighting capability.
On Friday last week, the new Hyundai van was officially put on the road.
Hoppers Crossing Lieutenant Paul DiMartino said the vehicle could be used for LPG flare-offs and also offered an extra way to transport crews to and from large incidents.
“Our brigade receives a fair amount of call-outs to conduct flare-offs so this van well be very
useful now and into the future,” Ltn DiMartino said.
“It provides easier access to the LPG response equipment which in turn provides a quicker and
safer response to the community.
“We are often called to attend large incidents within our area and across the state so this
vehicle will be valuable in many ways.”
The vehicle was funded as part of the CFA Volunteer Emergency Service Equipment Program
(VESEP) and with a grant of $9,476 by the Wyndham City Council.
“Some money was also raised by brigade members through fundraising events such as
Bunnings barbecues,” Mr DiMartino said.
“Purchasing this vehicle wouldn’t have been possible without the help of CFA, the Wyndham
City Council and the generous donations from the community.”
On Friday, Hoppers Crossing also sold and handed over their existing transport vehicle to
Eynesbury Fire Brigade.
“Eynesbury is a newly formed brigade so our old Holden Rodeo will be a good vehicle to
provide their members additional transport to incidents,” Ltn DiMartino said.
“We’re all volunteers for the same reason, to help protect lives and property, so I’m pleased we
were able to assist on of our neighbouring brigades.”
