Quite a debut

SANCTUARY Lakes president Danny Galea has given his club’s debut season in the Western Region Football League the tick of approval.
The Sharks finished the year in ninth place on the division two ladder with a 6-12 win/loss record. Its wins came against Laverton, North Sunshine and sixth-placed Caroline Springs.
“Being the first year I guess we didn’t know what to expect,” Galea said.
“We were really happy with the way everything panned out. “We finished in the black as far as monetary, we didn’t have too many off-field incidents and on-field I think everything went well.”
But it wasn’t just the senior sides which were cause for celebration at Featherbrook Reserve.
A number of the Sharks’ junior teams also enjoyed outstanding years with four qualifying for grand finals and the under 16 side securing a premiership win.
Although the dust is still yet to settle on year one, Galea and his committee are already turning their attention to 2014.
“I think on-field, you always want to make finals,” he said.
“Really what we want to be able to do, and the committee has spoken about this before, we would like to be able to put more into the community.
“I would like to be in a situation where, let’s say the Werribee hospital needs some form of donation for something, we would love to be able to contribute towards that.
“We are a non-profit organisation also and we want to be putting back into Werribee and Point Cook so that is really important for us as a committee. That is where we would like to be at.”
Galea also praised the hard work of the club coaches throughout the year and was confident all would return to the same roles next year.
