WYNDHAM’S newest train station will start taking passengers as early as April next year and will eventually be used by more than two million residents a year, the Project Manager has told Star.

Ashley Schwarz, the Project Manager of the new Williams Landing Railway Station, said the construction works were on track for completion early next year.

“The intention is to open the new Williams Landing station and start services in conjunction with the April 2013 metropolitan timetable change,” Mr Schwarz said.

“Daily patronage estimates indicate that Williams Landing station will cater for approximately 2,000 daily users from opening.

“Patronage is expected to increase to approximately 5,500 daily users by 2031.”

Residents driving in and out of Wyndham can already see the $86 million station taking place and Mr Schwarz said when it is complete it will feature access via lifts, ramps and stairs, 500 car park spaces, a bus terminal, a taxi rank, a footbridge across the Princes Freeway from Point Cook and bicycle access and storage.

“The Williams Landing Project will improve transport access in the growing Wyndham area, providing direct links between Williams Landing town centre, Point Cook and the city,” he said.

“As part of the project, Palmers Rd will be extended across the Werribee rail line to link the station and Williams Landing town centre with the Princes Freeway and Point Cook.

“Palmers Road is also being widened from three to five lanes, with dedicated through lanes in each direction and two shared bicycle and pedestrian paths.”
