Point Cook retail plan

By Alesha Capone
WYNDHAM City Council has proposed a change to its planning scheme, which would allow a retail development of up to 6000 square metres within the Featherbrook Estate.
The council’s plan would apply to 1.89 hectares of land bordered by Sneydes Rd to the north and bisected by Boardwalk Blvd.
The council said it hoped the proposal would enable the land to be developed for retail, commercial, entertainment and community uses.
“The Business 1 Zone is appropriate to encourage the intensive development associated with a Neighbourhood Activity Centre, applying a maximum combined leasable floor area for shops of 6000 square metres,” the plan said.
“The amendment aims to provide a local retail centre for the growing population catchment of Point Cook.
A Neighbourhood Activity Centre will provide residents, both within the Featherbrook Estate and the broader Point Cook locality, with convenient access to retailing and other complementary commercial, entertainment and community uses and services that will improve the overall amenity of the centre.
“Its location will provide a gateway to the Featherbrook Estate, and complement existing/proposed services and facilities, offering convenient localised shopping and the creation of a community hub.”
Residents can inspect the plans at www.dpcd.vic.gv.au and feedback can be lodged at mail@wyndham.vic.gov.au by 20 March.
