10 years’ jail for

FORMER Victorian drug squad detective Glenn Sadler has been sentenced to 10 years’ jail for his part in a covert operation to traffic heroin in Melbourne.
Sadler, 41, formerly of Keilor, and fellow drug squad officer Stephen Cox appeared before Justice Stephen Kaye in the Victorian Supreme Court last Friday for sentencing, after being convicted of conspiracy to traffic a commercial quantity of heroin back in September.
Justice Kaye sentenced Sadler to serve 10 years’ jail, with a non-parole period of six years, while Alan Cox was sentenced to seven years’ in prison, with a non-parole period of four years.
“Your conduct was calculated to undermine the administration and enforcement of justice in our society,” Justice Kaye told the two men during sentencing.
“You exploited and took advantage of your position as policemen to initiate and further your criminal activity, all with an eye to finanical gain,” the judge said.
When sentencing Sadler, Justice Kaye took into account Sadler’s good character and years of community service.
Neither of the two men had lodged an appeal against the sentence or the verdict at the time of press.
