Club has high hopes, but who’s playing?

AFTER their most successful year to date the Westbourne Warriors are well underway with plans for the 2008 Victorian Amateur Football Association season, but a lack of junior players is proving potentially troublesome.
The Old Westbourne Amateurs under 19 side coached by Paul Johns is in desperate need of players, with numbers lacking and the season fast approaching. The rest of the junior club is also facing difficulties with numbers increasing but not fast enough since the early February registration day.
“Numbers have been building but more players are urgently sought for the under 10, 12, and 16 teams with home and away junior games starting on Sunday 6 April,” OWAFC president Ivan Board said.
Preseason training for all senior and under 19 players has been underway for some time with the last two weeks of March to be held on Monday and Wednesday from 6.30pm at Price Reserve as a result of the re-seeding of the Westbourne ovals.
After winning the VAFA D3 senior flag in September the senior team coached by Fab Gatti and the reserves team coached by Andrew Horsburgh were promoted to D2 grade, with the season getting underway on 12 April. First-aid and trainers are also being sought by the club.
Interested players or officials can contact the president Ivan Board on 9749 3808.
The club will take on arch-rivals Werribee Amateurs on 10 May as part of the Community Football Weekend and the 150th Year of Australian Football.
