MINISTER for Education Lynne Kosky helped Derrimut Heath Primary School officially open four new classrooms last Friday.
The $760,000 classrooms have a flexible design and can be adjusted to fit the Hoppers Crossing school’s changing enrolment.
Principal Julie Mason said her 14-room school now had its full complement of permanent classrooms.
The new rooms have been used since about March by Year 5 and 6 students.
“We’ll still have re-locatable buildings for at least a few more years, Ms Mason said.
“Until our enrolment settles.”
She said enrolment at the 14-year-old school was expected to decline from about 610 students to 485 over the next decade or so.
“As with any school on new estates, our enrolment will decline as the area ages.”
Nearby Tarneit residents can also look forward to having a new Prep-9 school on Baden Powell Drive in 2008.
“Some students will stay here, others will choose to move there,” Ms Mason said.
Derrimut Heath will govern the new school with a similar model to the one employed at Caranballac College and the soon-to-be-built Point Cook Secondary school.
