New sweeper adds the finishing touch

A NEW $180,000 broom will sweep cleaner in Footscray.
The central business district will receive an extra shine from the new Scarab Minor footpath sweeper that is now patrolling its streets.
Maribyrnong City Council Saltwater Ward Councillor Janet Rice said the new sweeper would complement the upgrade works underway in Footscray.
“It’s only appropriate that we invest in new technology to keep our streets and footpaths clean,” she said.
Nicholson Street mall and Footscray’s business district will be cleaned twice a day with the new machine.
“The new sweeper is far more efficient than the manual units we used previously, saving time, labour and energy while providing a better result.
“With a shiny new lustre, all the projects on the go and the allocated funding, Footscray is Melbourne’s number one place to be,” Cr Rice said.
