Playground to rise again – in steel

By Ann Marie Angebrandt
A WYNDHAMVALE playground built in timber will be rebuilt in steel after arsonists attacked it for the fourth time in two years early last Sunday morning.
The blaze at Presidents Park caused $50,000 damage, destroying about two-thirds of the community-built playground.
Police said it was started with aerosol accelerants.
The adventure playground is located on the corner of McGrath and Heaths roads, and was built by hundreds of volunteers in the mid-1990s.
Arsonists have targeted it three times previously in the last two years.
Wyndham mayor Shane Bourke said the community had already decided to use steel to rebuild sections that were destroyed in a $25,000 fire last August.
Cr Bourke said the council would discuss improving security of the park, but security cameras were not appropriate.
Anyone with information about the fires should contact Detective Senior Constable Matt Noy from Werribee Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
