Unwanted attention

HALLOWEEN is but a sombre affair for Emma Scott this year.
The Hoppers Crossing teenager doesn’t want to set herself up for the kind of unwanted attention her home has endured in the past two years.
The happy-go-lucky spook enthusiast was devastated when thieves stole $300 worth of speciality decorations from her front yard, and threw eggs at her home while she was out celebrating on 31 October 2005.
They took gravestones, cauldrons, bones and witches, all items that she had taken inside each night before bed to ensure their safety. Emma, 17, is in the middle of her year 12 exams at The Grange P-12 College, and she still managed to muster the strength to put together a modest collection worth about $200 – to be kept inside.
“It’s mostly inside stuff, I have a coffin and gravestones on the floor, and some window displays,” Emma said.
This year, she plans to do some daylight trick or treating with some younger cousins and get back in time to guard her house.
