A RANDOM blitz by the Sheriff on the streets of Truganina last week nabbed 62 people with outstanding warrants.
Uniformed officers from the West Metropolitan region and Victoria Police officers combined for a targeted operation, focussing on enforcing outstanding debts using tough sanctions and penalties.
The operation was set up near Sayers Rd and automatic number plate recognition technology was used to identify offenders.
The 62 individuals caught during the operation had a total of 904 outstanding infringement warrants between them, valued at nearly $272,000.
Eleven Vehicles were wheel-clamped, with the drivers required to arrange some form of payment in order to have the clamps removed.
Twenty-four drivers were notified their driver licence or vehicle registration would be suspended if they did not arrange to pay within seven days. These notices were issued against 579 warrants worth almost $166,000.
Sheriff of Victoria, Brandan Facey, said his office would continue to run operations such as this in an effort to stamp out fine evasion.
“While most Victorians do the right thing and pay their fines on time, there are those who continue to do the wrong thing and those people should know that they will be caught,” Mr Facey said.
“Payment of fines is not optional. People are liable for their outstanding infringements and continuing to ignore them will not make them go away.”
Anyone with concerns about their outstanding fines should call 1300 SHERIFF and speak to someone about their options.
