WERRIBEE residents will soon have access to some of the fastest internet in the world with the company in charge of the National Broadbank Network announcing last week that construction on the high-speed system will start immediately.
The NBN Co said construction contractors had now been given instructions to start work, which would begin with a detailed survey of the area and the existing telecommunications infrastructure.
This work is expected to take several months before fibre hauling commences.
Once construction has begun in Werribee, NBN Co will release maps as they add more construction modules to an area until all properties in the fibre footprint are covered.
NBN Co Community Account Manager for Victoria, Lalla Mackenzie, said the maps were a good sign for Werribee residents and business owners.
“The release of these maps each month signals to residents and businesses that they are on the way to being able to take advantage of the benefits that the NBN offers,” Ms Mackenzie said.
“You’ll be able to enjoy great quality video calls, get the whole family on line at once, and download movies in minutes.”
Ms Mackenzie said it would take around 12 months from the start of construction until residents and business owners could order NBN retail services from telephone or internet service providers.
Wyndham Mayor Heather Marcus welcomed the announcement that faster internet could soon be on its way.
“It’s exciting to see work starting to commence on the National Broadband Network in Werribee and we welcome the opportunities it will bring for both families and businesses in our local area,” Cr Marcus said.
