THE stage is set for the biggest fashion event of the year in Wyndham.
Fashion Awards Australia will celebrate its 15th birthday this week with event organiser Heather Marcus saying it could be the last time it is ever held in Wyndham.
With the redevelopment of the Wyndham Leisure and Events Centre on the cards, Ms Marcus said it is unlikely there will be a large enough venue to hold the fashion awards.
Ms Marcus said this year’s event could be the last chance for Wyndham residents to see the Fashion Awards in their own municipality.
More than 150 students from 16 schools will participate in the event, with the best outfits making it through to a final gala event at the Grand Hyatt in Melbourne.
“The students are just so creative, especially in the sustainable category. They have used paper, metal and just absolutely everything they could get their hands on,” Ms Marcus said.
“We’re just so excited. It’s at fever pitch because we know that this is going to be the greatest fashion show that has ever been in Wyndham.”
Ms Marcus said the regional final in Wyndham could be a springboard to greater things for some of the students.
“The students are very excited and the teachers tell me that the quality of the gowns is very high,” she said.
“The students’ big aim is to show their gowns at the gala presentation. They don’t want to stop at the regional final so the quality is just superb.”
The Fashion Awards Australia will be held on Friday 27 August at the Wyndham Leisure and Events Centre at 80 Derrimut Road in Hoppers Crossing.
