WYNDHAM residents who find themselves stuttering or sweating at the thought of speaking in front of a crowd of people are being encouraged to join a new public speaking group.

Toastmasters International will be holding a demonstration meeting in Point Cook on Tuesday 21 January.

Member Judy Lenart said the meeting will give residents a chance to see how the group helps members improve their speaking and confidence.

“Since Toastmasters was founded in 1924, millions of people around the world have benefited from a program aimed at helping people improve their public speaking and leadership skills,” Ms Lenart said.

“Our goal for Tuesday is to show people how we achieve this – and the great times we have in doing so.”

Ms Lenart said before she joined the Williamstown branch of Toastmasters International she had very little confidence.

“It has really improved my confidence and I’ve met lots of wonderful people,” she said.

“It’s taught me to step out of my comfort zone and make calculated risks.

“I’ve left several jobs because I wasn’t happy and I knew I could do better because of the confidence that Toastmasters has given me.”

Ms Lenart said it was hoped that if enough people turned up to the Point Cook meeting that a separate group would be established in the area.

The meeting will be held at the Point Cook Learning Centre at 1-21 Cheetham St in Point Cook from 7pm to 9pm.
