Clean-up call

WYNDHAM Council is urging residents to maintain their vacant land, with the next round of inspections due to start in the coming weeks.

All vacant land owners will receive a letter with a reminder of their obligations under Wyndham Local Law 16.

Land owners have been reminded they are responsible for maintaining both the safety and cleanliness of their land and for reducing fire and health hazards.

Councillor Glenn Goodfellow said the aim of the local-law is to ensure appropriate maintenance of vacant land to improve the overall presentation of the city, while minimising potential health and safety risks.

“Our aim is to promote the city as a safe, clean and well-presented place to live and visit. We do that by setting this local-law, reminding land owners of their obligations and issuing infringement notices if necessary,” Cr Goodfellow said.

“We’ve asked land owners to inspect their properties regularly and to maintain grass and undergrowth to a height of no more than 150 millimetres and keep their land clear of any fire hazard, noxious weeds, litter or rubbish.”

Owners who do not comply may be fined $256 and will be required to clean up their properties within a specified time.
