Police charge armed offenders

THREE Wyndham men, including an 18-year-old man, have been charged over a series of armed robberies that spanned the municipality.

On Friday 18 January members of the Altona North Armed Robbery Taskforce executed search warrants and arrested an 18-year-old man from Werribee, a 25-year-old man from Werribee and a 24-year-old man from Wyndham Vale.

They were originally arrested for allegedly taking part in two armed robberies but eventually confessed to four robberies that took place from October last year to January this year.

On Wednesday 9 January at about 8pm it is alleged two of the men entered a milk bar in Cambridge Crescent in Werribee.

It is believed on of the men spoke to a staff member at the milk bar while the other man picked up a packet of chips before walking to the counter where both men unveiled weapons, including a tomahawk and a silver baton.

They then grabbed the entire cash register before fleeing the store and making a getaway in a waiting white sedan.

The next day it is alleged two of the men again entered a store in Morris Rd in Hoppers Crossing just after 2am.

They again engaged the attendant in conversation before brandishing a knife.

The attendant activated the alarm and the men ran from the store.

Acting Detective Sergeant Ricky Millar from the Altona North Armed Robbery Taskforce told Star the men were arrested “following a lengthy investigation in which we did receive public assistance”.

The men are expected to face the Melbourne Magistrates Court in April.
