Bottleneck to be eased

TRAFFIC congestion on Wyndham’s busy Tarneit Rd will be eased after council awarded a $1.85 million contract at last week’s meeting to widen the road.
Duplication work on the 1.4 kilometre stretch of Tarneit Rd between Hogans and Heaths roads in Werribee will begin in April. It is expected to take up to 24 weeks to complete.
The council awarded the contract to Universal Concrete Contractors Pty Ltd after receiving 10 expressions of interest.
Councillor Mark Rose attacked VicRoads, who have come under pressure to improve roads and services in the area. “We are addressing growth issues,” Cr Rose said. “Pity VicRoads does not.”
Wyndham mayor Kim McAliney said the additional lanes would cut traffic time for motorists.
“It is estimated that 17,200 vehicles per day use this stretch of road, which is one of Wyndham’s busiest. Wyndham Council is committed to upgrading infrastructure to cope with the increasing population.”
Cr McAliney urged residents and motorists to be patient during the construction period.
