Coach Theodore leads by example

SPOTSWOOD coach Luke Theodore led from the front in his team’s convincing 54-point triumph over Sunshine in the Western Region Football League (WRFL) Division One competition on Saturday.
The talented playing coach helped himself to more than 30 possessions in a dominant display across half-back.
His use of the footy was superb and he continually set the Woodsmen up with clever skill coming out of defence.
Theodore was also seen running and carrying the footy into the Spotswood forward line on their way to an impressive 18.15.123 to 9.15.69 win.
The Woodsmen had a steely resolve about them from the outset against Sunshine, having several scoring opportunities in the opening term.
They went into the quarter-time break with a 20-point buffer after booting 4.6 to 1.4, but it was in the second stanza in which they turned up the heat.
Through Theodore, Wayne Patak and Mark Keenan, Spotswood ran amok to boot 6.4 for the term and open up a match-winning 39-point half-time advantage.
Keenan booted five goals to bring his season tally to 29.
Sunshine never gave up the ghost and remained competitive in the second half through Adriano Mastropasqua and Corey Connor.
Connor kicked three goals to be his team’s most productive forward.
Albion had a 34-point triumph over Yarraville-Seddon on Saturday.
The opening quarter was evenly matched with the Eagles leading by two points at quarter-time.
Albion laid the foundations for the win with a big second term, slamming on 8.4 to 3.5 to go into the main change with a healthy 26-point break.
Michael Turner, Trevor Fletcher and Troy Kelm were the best served for Albion and won plenty of the footy, while Adam Fenton booted four goals.
For Yarraville Seddon, Morgan King finished with five majors and was his side’s best.
Port Melbourne Colts produced a 212-point rout of Parkside on Saturday.
The reigning premier simply had winners on every line with a forward set-up the envy of the rest of the competition.
Jason Clarke booted eight goals for the Colts while Chris Brennan kicked six.
Saul and Jonathon Caddy each booted four goals, as did Brett Jacobs and Ryan Winters.
St Albans was too slick for Glen Orden, running out with a 20.18.138 to 8.12.60 triumph.
Michael Spooner was again dangerous around goal with seven majors while Damien Fitzpatrick was a star with five goals and was the most influential player on the ground.
And Hoppers Crossing crushed Altona by 126 points in a one-sided contest.
