Exemptions on tap, but fines bone dry

NO residents in Brimbank have been fined by City West Water during Stage 3 water restrictions.
A total of 492 received first-warning letters and another 165 were issued second warnings.
City West Water managing director Anne Barker said 309 exemptions were issued.
Sixty-three exemptions for filling swimming pools were issued and 246 exemptions were issued for the elderly or residents with a medical condition.
The exemptions included changes to times and use of a trigger nozzle, Ms Barker said.
“In the future, exemptions will be given on a case-by-case basis for earlier watering times come the end of daylight saving,” she said.
“As we come out of summer we’re recognising that it is getting dark earlier, making it harder for some customers to water.
“We’ve created this allowance for people who feel unsafe watering in the dark, particularly the elderly or those with a medical condition.”
