A WYNDHAM Vale family of five has been forced to find emergency accommodation after fire destroyed one bedroom and most of the roof of their home on Sunday.
It is believed the fire started about 11am after one of the three children living at the home in Croxley Close was playing with matches.
Werribee CFA incident controller Michael Wells said the strong hot winds last Sunday helped fan the fire, which began near the rear gate of the home. “The wind pushed the fire up and it spread rapidly into the roofline,” he said.
Despite the wind, CFA crews were able to control the fire within 15 minutes.
A total of six CFA units attended the fire including four from Werribee and two from Hoppers Crossing.
Mr Wells said damage to the home was estimated to be up to $100,000.
Meanwhile, fire crews from Hoppers Crossing were called out to an accident in which a truck rolled over near Laverton’s RAAF base early Monday morning.
A semi trailer carrying meat carcasses rolled over on Sayers Rd, causing major disruption to peak hour traffic Monday morning. It is believed the driver suffered only minor injuries.
