STAFF and students at Good News Lutheran School are looking forward to the completion of four new classrooms and a church next year.
But plans to offer secondary schooling as part of the Tarneit school’s expansion have been put on hold for a few years, says its principal, Jan Baker.
“We had hoped to offer up to year 8 next year, then extend into the higher grades year by year, but the program’s been moved a bit down the track,” she said.
The $1.9 million expansion – funded largely by the Federal Government – is the largest in the school’s 10-year history.
Ms Baker said there was frustration about the lack of Christian secondary schools in the area.
The school would expand its enrolment of 124 students this year to 152 next. “We’ll be able to use the church during the week for whole-school assemblies,” Ms Baker said. “It will be fantastic not to have to meet outside or squeeze into the library.”
In the meantime, students have enjoyed seeing the cranes, steel girders and beams being shaped into their new school.
