VICTORIAN Institute of Sport (VIS) athlete Kimberley Bessell will compete in the Squash World Junior Championships after being selected in the Australian Junior team.
The Tarneit Gardens resident, a five-time junior Australian champion, will travel with the team to Hong Kong for the Championships from 1-11 August.
The 18-year-old competed in the National Junior Series in April, a two-part competition held in Canberra.
She finished third in the first event, the Stuart Boswell Classic, and second in the Heather McKay Classic.
She won a total of seven out of nine matches played over the series.
Bessell is ranked number three in the country in the under 19 category, having only recently been elevated from the under 17 level, where she was the number one player in Australia.
She has enjoyed a stellar junior career, including winning her first national title in 2001 as a 12-year-old, and winning another four straight from 2003-06.
Her five national championships are equal to the most won by an Australian female.
Bessell missed out on selection for the national team for the last world championships in 2005, but consistent results in the past 12 months opened up a spot on the team.
She is coached by multiple state champion and VIS head coach Karen Morrissey, and has been on a scholarship since 2003.
